Welcome to this website dealing with the Butchertown neighborhood and the release of my first book, Louisville’s Butchertown by Arcadia Press on February 8th, 2010.  Butchertown was founded in the early 1800′s by butchers who found the location between turnpikes heading in with livestock from farms, transportation via railway and riverboats to far away markets, and convienient disposal of their waste in Beargrass Creek. Much has changed since then, and all but one meatpacking plant have left the neighborhood. Since the 1960′s, there have been relatively strong movements by the residents to revive the neighborhood by renovating derilict properties and the achievement of Historic Registry status. Check my events page often for book signings and other events!
