Located in Butchertown since 2006, Miss C’s Kitchen is a delightful spot for unique lunches created with local products. The idea for Miss C’s grew from working together at the Bardstown Road Farmer’s market: Charlotte was selling her jellies, and Chris was creating breakfast items using products from the farmer’s market. They both wanted a more permanent space, and that idea evolved into moving to this Story Avenue location where they can display manufactured products as well as cook.
Starting Tuesday March 22, Chris will begin to make her seasonal Bluegrass Ice Cream- named for its combination of local mint, Woodford Reserve Bourbon, and dark chocolate chips. All ice cream is made in small batches (with real cream!) and some flavors to look forward to are coffee ice cream (using Red Hot Roasters coffee) and Blue Monday which combines the sweetness of Ruth Hunt’s Blue Monday with the taste of BBC Bourbon Barrel Stout beer. Other seasonal products available for purchase are their homemade beer cheese (made with BBC pale ale) and when cucumbers are available in the summer they will made fresh benedictine.
With their love of food, creating new ideas is the best part of their job. They happily do personal chefing on top of their other duties, and told me of creating dinners for surprise anniversaries, birthdays, and new mothers which can be picked up and warmed at home for a meal. They get a kick out of creating something special and have a good time with each of their projects. This Friday they will be donating lunch for WFPK’s fundraiser, and are thinking of a way to include quinoa in their entree.
They absolutely love their location in Butchertown- for the proximity to downtown, the mix of people that come in their store, and the wonderful architecture that is throughout the neighborhood- and love creating new recipes using local ingredients. Stop by one day soon and have lunch (Tuesday-Friday 10:30-2:30) or try their breakfast Saturdays from 9-2. Remember that Miss C’s only takes cash!
